The Sarasota Herald-Tribune bolsters its woman-leadership team by hiring Rosemary Armao as its managing editor.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune in Florida bolsters its woman-leadership team by hiring Rosemary Armao , the Baltimore Sun 's Anne Arundel County bureau chief, as its managing editor. The Herald-Tribune 's executive editor, Diane H. McFarlin , steps up to associate publisher; Managing Editor Janet Weaver gets bumped up to McFarlin's spot; and former Investigative Reporters & Editors executive director Armao replaces Weaver.... Former AJR (then WJR) Editor and NBC Washington bureau chief Bill Monroe retires from his ombudsman post at Stars and Stripes , a job he held twice: from 1992 to 1995 and, on this go-around, since 1997. The 50,000-circulation daily serves American military troops and Department of Defense employees and their families living overseas.... Bruce W. Kyse , executive editor of the Press Democrat in Santa Rosa, California, trades the daily news grind for an online gig all about wine. After 22 years with the paper, Kyse becomes general manager of WineToday.com , a New York Times Co.-owned Web site.... MediaGossip. com Webmaster Jim Romenesko lends his link-gathering talents to the Poynter Institute for Media Studies. He's halting his industry ins-and-outs site to create a daily media page on the Poynter site, www.poynter.org .
