The online magazine Salon (www. salonmagazine.com) enters an agreement with United Feature Syndicate, which will distribute content from the site to newspapers nationwide. The agreement, among the first of such "crossover" arrangements in which original content developed for the Web will be carried in print venues, will have articles from Salon, which recently went from a weekly Web-zine to a daily one, appearing in both the print and online editions of member newspapers.... The Seattle Times Co. names former telecommunications techie Nancy J. Bruner director of new media, a newly created position.... Ken Doctor, former managing editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, is named vice president of editorial operations for Knight-Ridder New Media. Doctor, who was instrumental in the creation of Pioneer Planet (www.pioneerplanet. com), the online version of the Pioneer Press, succeeds David Yarnold, who recently left the position after less than a year to return to his previous job as managing editor of the San Jose Mercury News (see Going Back).
