Going Native

When I was a stringer for Memphis' Commercial Appeal, its Mid-South editor, the late Eugene Rutland, told me that Editor Frank Ahlgren had banned from the paper the word "native" unless referring to a North American Indian. ("Everyone's a Grammarian," October/November 2005.)
