In describing people and places, use all five senses to fully re-create the environment.

Pay attention to details, and record them in your notebook as you report. Later, use all available resources to acquire precise measurements, names and descriptions.

Try to construct scenes that can drive the action in the story.

Use creative resources when trying to understand a source, including photo albums, journals and anything else that provides insight into that person.

Confirm dialogue with anyone who may have heard it spoken, and fact-check all other information that can be documented or confirmed by a third party.
