The number of newspapers and
newspaper chains covering the State Department has shrunk dramatically since
2003, the last time AJR conducted its foreign reporting survey. Today just six
newspaper reporters spend at least half of their time covering foreign affairs
and the State Department, compared with 13 seven years ago.
