After spending virtually all of his career at the Dallas Morning News , Jeremy L. Halbreich relinquishes his president and general manager positions and embarks on a new task--building his own newspaper group. Halbreich has formed American Consolidated Media and is looking to buy newspaper properties. ``It's something I had been thinking about for a couple of years," he says. After joining the Morning News right out of college in 1974, Halbreich created the paper's first marketing department and climbed the ranks, becoming president in 1991. He's succeeded by Robert W. Mong Jr ., 49, a former Morning News managing editor who most recently served as executive vice president of parent company A.H. Belo Corp.'s publishing division. Halbreich, 46, is looking for something ``as stimulating and challenging" as his time at the Morning News.
