San Francisco Examiner Publisher and Editor Lee J. Guittar retires after 31 years in newspaperdom. Timothy O. White, 56, vice president and publisher of New York's Albany Times Union, succeeds Guittar, and David P. White, the Times Union's advertising director, follows the falling dominoes, becoming the main man in Albany.... The Washington Post's foreign editor of the last five years and former London bureau chief, Eugene Robinson, becomes assistant managing editor in charge of the paper's Style section. When he first joined the paper 19 years ago, Robinson considered Style "the unique section in the Post...innovative and daring." He says he couldn't resist the opportunity to direct its course. Robinson replaces David Von Drehle, who switches to writing and reporting on the national staff.... AJR contributor Sharyn Wizda leaves her southern Palm Beach County bureau chief job at the Palm Beach Post to become features editor of the Austin American-Statesman.... Suzan Revah, a CNET associate editor and former AJR star, links up with the San Francisco Examiner as an online editor.... Dan K. Thomasson, 65, retires from his posts as vice president/news for Scripps Howard newspapers and editor of Scripps Howard News Service after 40 years with the organization. Peter Copeland, 41, the wire's ME, succeeds him as editor and general manager of the news service, while Jay Ambrose, 54, chief editorial writer for the service and former Denver Rocky Mountain News editor, jumps to director of editorial policy for Scripps newspapers.... America Online scores three more hires from the washingtonpost.com newsroom: News AME Jim Brady becomes programming director of AOL's sports channel; associate breaking news editor Gary Kebbel joins AOL's news channel as assistant managing editor; and Kira Marchenese, a senior news producer for Metro, slides over as a senior programming manager for the international channel. They all follow former washingtonpost.com Editor Jason Seiken, now AOL's executive director of channel programming.... Journalist James Fallows joins the board of an infant think tank, the New America Foundation, which provides one-year stipends for unconventional thinkers to write stories for major newspapers and magazines.... Daryl Lease, a copy editor and former assistant editorial page editor at the Fredericksburg, Virginia, Free Lance-Star, joins Florida's Sarasota Herald-Tribune as an editorial writer.
