By Lori Robertson G.E. McDavid steps down as president of the Houston Chronicle, while Chronicle V.P. and General Manager John W. Sweeney moves up to fill the slot. McDavid, who served as president since 1990, started working for the paper 40 years ago in the composing room... The Des Moines Register finds a new managing editor in Mike Townsend, formerly executive editor of California's Marin Independent Journal. The Register spot was vacated by Diane Graham, who lengthens her title to managing editor for staff development and training... Steven Brill beefs up the editorial team at Brill's Content with the addition of Legal Times Editor and Publisher Eric Effron. Now, Brill, former Time magazine political correspondent Michael Kramer and Editorial Director Effron will share the top editing duties... Brian Duffy, a Wall Street Journal investigative editor who also worked at U.S. News & World Report, comes back to U.S. News as executive editor.
