Thanks for Rem Rieder's thoughtful column "Searching for Sarah Palin" in AJR's October/November issue. While you make some very good points (our form of government only works well when citizens are duly informed), it would be helpful to point out that some newspapers – and certainly the major TV networks – were less than enthusiastic in giving readers and viewers a fuller picture on who Barack Obama is. This is doubly important because he was running for president, not vice president. Bias in the opinion section is fine. On the news pages, however, it's a clear disservice to our readers and viewers and all citizenry.

I just read your column about Sarah Palin coverage, and while you made good points, I was wondering why similar articles have not been published about Barack Obama. The media has anointed him "Messiah" and little serious journalism is done about his background. I think the media's frenzy to go after Palin is worthy of criticism, in light of the lack of investigation into Joe Biden and Obama.
