Putting her organizational and time-management skills to the test, Karla Garrett Harshaw takes on job No. 2. The editor of Ohiošs Springfield News-Sun is now also senior editor for community newspapers for her paper's parent, Cox. Harshaw will foster cooperation among and groom and retain talent for the 12 Cox papers, including the News-Sun, with circulations of 55,000 and less. ŗA lot of papers in general, and maybe smaller ones in particular, are facing difficulties in getting good candidates in and holding them on staff,˛ Harshaw says. Her new duties mirror those of Atlanta Journal and Constitution Editor Ron Martin, who works with Cox's large papers. Martin and Harshaw's roles cover those of Arnold Rosenfeld, senior vice president and editor in chief of Cox Newspapers, who retired at the end of April. ###
