Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. founder Ralph Martin steps down as head of the upstart company, and CFO Mike Reed adds a few more letters--CEO--to his title. The 3-year-old CNHI publishes 94 dailies and 125 paid weeklies.... NBC correspondent Donatella Lorch goes back to print, as a reporter in Newsweek's Washington bureau. Lorch made the move to TV in 1996, after seven years with the New York Times, two of them as East Africa bureau chief. "I really missed reporting," Lorch says. "When you're a correspondent overseas for one of the networks, especially one that has a 24-hour cable channel...there's so much pressure for you to be on the air all the time, that it limits the reporting that a correspondent can do."... Rolling Stone National Affairs Editor William Greider takes his political writing to The Nation.... The Freedom Forum and Washington, D.C.'s WETA scrap their plans for a public affairs cable network in the nation's capital due to insufficient airtime commitments from local cable operators.... Carlo Vittorini, chairman, publisher and CEO of Parade Publications, retires on February 28, after 20 years with the company. Walter Anderson, executive vice president of Parade Publications and editor of Parade magazine, will fill his shoes.... After almost 10 years as managing editor at TV Guide, Jack Curry becomes executive editor at USA Weekend magazine.
