The 88,103-circulation Greensboro News & Record in North Carolina bulks up for its growing market. The paper adds 53 new positions--33 and a half of them in editorial--and invests $13 million in new technology. "We've been studying this for about a year and a half," says Editor John Robinson . "We've been trying to figure out how to serve our readers better." The Greensboro area is rapidly growing, Robinson says, explaining that the broader coverage will focus on growth and development, transportation and neighborhood issues. Most of the hires, which bring the editorial staff to 160, are in the bureaus. The High Point bureau, in particular, grew from four to 14 reporters. It also has two editors, one-and-a-half photographers and one clerk.
