Garry Pierre-Pierre says he's "fearfully excited" about his new venture: launching a weekly English-language paper for Haitian Americans. Pierre-Pierre had been hatching the idea for two years, and he leaves his reporting job of more than six years with the New York Times to give it a go as the new paper's publisher. The Haitian Times delivers about 30 pages of news, business, health, entertainment and sports to Haitian communities in Miami, New York and other U.S. cities, and is the only such paper to do so in English. Both Pierre-Pierre and Yves Colon , a Miami Herald reporter and editor on leave to serve as the upstart's editor, immigrated to the United States from Haiti when they were young. With a staff of about 12, they'll highlight news from their native country--there's a bureau in Port-au-Prince--and news from Haitian communities in the United States. ###
