Sonja Sorensen Craig takes on the publisher's job at Salem, Oregon's
Statesman Journal after 11 years as publisher of Minnesota's St. Cloud

Sonja Sorensen Craig doesn't miss a beat. One Friday in October the
former publisher of Minnesota's St. Cloud Times agreed to become
publisher of Salem, Oregon's Statesman Journal--as of the following
Monday morning. "That's kind of the Gannett way," says Sorensen Craig of
the company that owns both papers. Her predecessor at the
58,000-circulation Salem paper, Sara Bentley, resigned suddenly after 13
years as publisher, citing personal reasons, says Statesman Journal
Editor Steven A. Smith. For Sorensen Craig, 56, moving to a paper with
twice the circulation of the St. Cloud Times, where she was publisher
for 11 years, is "definitely a promotion." Iowa native Sorensen Craig
has spent much of her career in the Midwest. One change she looks
forward to: "You don't have to shovel rain." Her replacement in St.
Cloud is William G. Albrecht, former advertising director at the Argus
Leader in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. ###
