Legendary Los Angeles TV newsman Jess Marlow retires--again. "Maybe this time it'll stick," says Marlow, 73, who left the anchor chair at KNBC in 1997 after 27 years, though he stayed on as host of its Sunday morning public affairs show a few years more. For the past two years he has coanchored the newsmagazine "Life & Times" on PBS member station KCET (see Free Press, April 2001). Marlow says he's enjoyed working on a program that "deals with issues, not instants.... It's also fun to have the floor director hold up five fingers and it doesn't mean you've only got five seconds, it means you've got five minutes" to wrap up an interview. ###
