Around and About

By Lori Robertson
Lori Robertson (robertson.lori@gmail.com), a former AJR managing editor, is a senior contributing writer for the magazine.

Former CNN exec Ed Turner becomes a former Forum Network president. Turner, who retires from the post, had come on board last year to head the public affairs cable channel developed by Washington, D.C.'s, WETA and the Freedom Forum. He'll stay on as a consultant while Jack Hurley, overseer of broadcast and interactive productions for the Freedom Forum, fills in as interim president. The Forum Network is getting a late start: Originally scheduled to begin broadcasting June 1, the network is now set to launch in early 2000.... Bill Kovach, curator of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard, steps down after 11 years, writing to its board that the program was "ready for an upgrade."... The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel creates a new beat--sports-business--and taps its senior editor/metro news, Don Walker, to do the reporting.... Thus far, four Talk staffers have said goodbye to Tina Brown's magazine: Managing Editor Howard J. Lalli, Production Director David Randall White, Features Editor Lisa Chase and Special Editor George Hodgman.
