David Anable was both sad and excited to announce in January that he would be transitioning "from writing and editing to hiking and oil painting" this summer as he retires as president of the Washington, D.C.-based International Center for Journalists.
Anable, 64, with the center for six-and-a-half years, says that job was the highlight of a career that included being chairman of Boston University's journalism school and managing editor of the Christian Science Monitor.
The size of the institute has more than doubled in terms of budget, staff and programs during Anable's tenure, says Jim Hoge, the center's chairman. "These outstanding accomplishments would not have been realized without David's energetic and visionary leadership."
Anable says, "It's a good moment to hand this wonderful organization over to a fine new leader, and move on to fresh fields further north." He's moving back to New England, where he raised his family. ###
