Dying by Its Own Hand

One crucial fact is that New Orleans' Times-Picayune justified its cutting back publishing dates to three times a week because of printing and distribution costs but then, as have others, cut its editorial staff. Ergo diminished research and news coverage, meaning the digital product will be less than what the print product was. So how can this new version have the value that the old version had? Isn't the news media dying by its own hand rather than by changes in consumers' readership methods?
