Boston TV anchor Kim Carrigan, seven months' pregnant at the time, gets a surprise phone call from her agent telling her she's been dumped from NBC affiliate WHDH-TV. An attorney for the station says Carrigan's agent demanded "significantly more than she [was] making, which was simply not what the station was interested in, and negotiations broke off." Carrigan, 38, who coanchored three evening newscasts, including the consistently top-rated 11 p.m. show, says the station, in an unusual move, asked for a last-minute contract proposal. She says less than an hour after receiving it, station General Manager Mike Carson called her agent and said Carrigan needn't come back to work. "There was no negotiation," Carrigan says. "There was never an attempt to reach an agreement." Carrigan says she doesn't know if her pregnancy had anything to do with her firing. She hopes to be back on the air at another Boston-area station by September.
