Going Home

Post foreign correspondent returns to his St. Petersburg home.

Kathryn S. Wenner, a former AJR associate editor, is a copy editor at the Washington Post.

Washington Post Brazil correspondent Stephen Buckley returns to his Florida roots, becoming national correspondent at the St. Petersburg Times starting in July. "It's a variety of factors," Buckley says of the move. "St. Petersburg is home, my parents, my family," and, he says, the job is one of the best in newspaper journalism. "I loved the St. Pete Times when I was growing up," says Buckley, 34, who interned at the paper as a sportswriter. "It was the paper that made me fall in love with newspaper journalism." Because the Post is adjusting how it divides Latin America coverage among its bureaus, responsibility for Brazil, where Buckley had opened a bureau, will fall for the time being to Buenos Aires-based Anthony Faiola , says Phil Bennett , assistant managing editor for foreign news. Faiola covered Brazil before Buckley. Bennett says the Post is "certainly not abandoning the idea of a bureau in Brazil."
