ABC News President David Westin names three senior executives to help steer the network. Bob Murphy becomes senior vice president of multimedia; Phyllis McGrady gets the lengthy title of senior vice president, primetime, early morning and news program development; and Paul Friedman bumps up to executive vice president and managing editor for news coverage.... The University of Maryland's Casey Journalism Center for Children and Families gains a new director. Beth Frerking, a children and family beat reporter for Newhouse News Service in Washington, D.C., steps in to head the Annie E. Casey Foundation-funded center. Its founding director of seven years, Cathy Trost, still consults part time.... AJR Assistant Editor and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Washington reporter Carol Guensburg stays on campus to direct a new fellowship program at the University of Maryland for journalists who cover children and family policy issues. A two-year grant from the Foundation for Child Development supports stipends for journalists to research issues and travel to the university for workshops.... David Carr, editor of D.C.'s Washington City Paper, defects to the Web. Carr will be the national correspondent for Powerful Media, www.powerfulmedia.com, an upstart site covering media and entertainment. ###
